Testing 123

I've got a batch of pattern ideas in my head and I can't wait to get them all out.
It might be a while before I can show them to you, but I thought I'd give you a little peek into what my days have been like lately--pattern testing.
The majority of the fabric I'm using for this one comes from Sarah Jane's "Children at Play" collection. There's also a Timeless Treasures' word print (I forget what it's called, it's been ages since I bought it). I love the newspaper-y sort of look it adds to the mix. I sure wish I had hoarded these fabrics when I had the chance, I heart them so.
I'll just say that I'm sewing a lot of diagonal lines with this one. I was feeling too lazy to mark the diagonal lines and thought I'd try Camille's frog tape trick to help speed up the process. Works like a charm.

Also, lots of chain-piecing and assembly line behavior going on.

I bought this cute little airplane at Hobby Lobby and I think it is going to be perfect in Lorenzo's room. And it was on sale. Woohoo.
I really want an All-American 1950's sort of room for him and I think the quilt and airplane will be a great start. I really really look forward to the hopefully-not-distant day when we will be homeowners and I can really go nuts with the decorating.

Until that day, I'll hoard all the treasures to go in it.
More about all of this later. Happy Halloweek!

Uhhhhhh, have you seen this "Hello Luscious" fabric by BasicGrey?! Adorable. I was late to the party on this one but am so glad I got some in my clutches to use in this special baby quilt.
I used 2 charm packs to make a disappearing 4-to-9 patch.
Have I mentioned before about the love affair I'm having with this Robert Kaufman yarn dyed flax? It adds such great texture to quilts.
I tried my hand at some freemotion blooms. Not only did I have a good time making them, I adore the result. Especially on the yarn dyed flax. The quilt back is white, making the quilting stand out that much more.

It's already been sent away and awaits the arrival of its sweet, long-anticipated owner.

Boo Bags

If I had it my way, it would be October all year long.
The crisp air is delicious, the fashion is divine, and I live for the string of holidays to follow.
I decided to celebrate by making some scrappy trick-or-treat bags and sharing the basic tutorial with you.
Materials Needed per bag:
  • FAT QUARTER #1: Cut two 9 x 11" panels for the bag exterior.
  • FAT QUARTER #2: Cut one 8 x 11" panel for the bag exterior and two 2.5 x 15" strips for straps.
  • 1/2 YARD LINING FABRIC: Cut two 11 x 12.5" panels.

Blue Skies

I've been working on a special little quilt market project for Moda and can finally show it to you! The fabric is Storybook by Kate & Birdie and I'm totally swooning over these hot air balloons and clouds. Aren't they sweet? This new fabric line will show at Quilt Market in Houston in a couple of weeks.

I only had time to make one project in time for quilt market, so I picked 12 of my favorite fat quarters from Storybook and fashioned them into a quilt perfect for a little man. (I used the Bella Solid "Flax" 9900 241 for the accent fabric.)
The pattern is now available in PDF and  paper in full color and you can make this quilt in two size options.

To celebrate the birth of this new pattern, I'm offering a 25% discount on the PDF pattern when you enter the promo code BLUESKIES at checkout. Discount good for the rest of October 2013.
